Brahms’ Requiem

Brahms’ Requiem

13 June 2026 at 19:00 – St. John’s Church, Tallinn
14 June 2026 at 18:00 – St. Paul’s Church, Tartu

Johannes Brahms began composing his Requiem in 1865 after the death of his mother. The work differs from the traditional Latin requiem mass in that Brahms selected the texts himself from the German Bible, focusing primarily on offering comfort to the living rather than on prayers for the dead.

In June 2026, the Estonian premiere of a new version of the work will take place, based on Brahms’ piano reduction and arranged for chamber ensemble.

Performers include soloists, chamber ensemble, and Kammerkoor Kolm Lindu.
Conductor: Kärolin Tuisk

Visual concept

As part of the project, around ten graphic artists will be invited to create original posters for the concert. In addition to their digital use, these works are planned to be exhibited at the concert venues.

Kammerkoor Kolm Lindu has consciously avoided using a unified visual identity or artificial intelligence, instead combining musical interpretation with author-based visual art. Each poster functions as an independent artwork. The main visual of the project is created by Mirjam Reili.

Historical background

14 June 2026 marks 85 years since the June deportations in Estonia, giving the concert additional commemorative significance.
